Mosque carpet is simultaneously a functional layout, a large interior surface and a long-term maintenance asset. Accurate prayer-row geometry, architectural coordination and installation control are as important as pattern and color selection.
Survey orientation and architectural geometry
Start with an accurate site survey and confirmed qibla direction from the responsible project authority. Map columns, mihrab, doors, circulation, level changes and fixed elements. Establish prayer-row spacing and determine how rows meet irregular boundaries. Small angular differences accumulate across a large hall, so generic room dimensions are not enough for production layouts.
Develop the design at full spatial scale
Coordinate border, field, medallion and row-marker concepts with the architecture and viewing distances. Review digital layouts over the surveyed plan, then assess color and motif in physical samples under site lighting. Details that look balanced on a screen may become too dense or too weak at full scale. Define the approved artwork file, colors and sample as controlled production references.
Specify comfort and operational performance
Consider kneeling comfort, pile recovery, density, fiber and dye approach, acoustics, cleaning method, traffic at entrances and relevant local performance requirements. Balance softness with stable row definition and maintainability. Entrance soil control, shoe-storage flow and cleaning access influence long-term appearance. Qualified local professionals should confirm fire, accessibility and other regulatory needs.
Control production and installation
Approve roll or production maps, dye lots, pattern repeats and seam positions before dispatch. Survey substrate moisture, flatness and cleanliness and assign corrective work. Set out rows from the agreed reference, install a control area and inspect alignment across columns and thresholds. Retain matching material and complete as-built records for future repair.
Project checklist
- Qibla and prayer-row geometry are formally confirmed
- Design is overlaid on an accurate site survey
- Physical samples are approved under site lighting
- Substrate and seam responsibilities are defined
- Set-out control and matching spare material are planned
